KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Thousands of "Beliebers" thronged Merdeka Stadium last night to watch teen pop sensation Justin Bieber's maiden performance in the country. The sell-out show saw female fans turning up in Bieber T-shirts and his favourite colour - purple. Despite the heavy rain, many did not move but donned raincoats instead to enjoy the pulsating performance.
Though his voice has deepened, the Canadian singer, who has graced the cover of Rolling Stones and Vanity Fair magazines, didn't disappoint his fans.
Bieber, 17, who shot to fame via his YouTube videos, belted out his hit numbers, including Baby, U Smile, One Less Lonely Girl, Somebody to Love, and Never Say Never, which is also the title of his popular biopic-concert film released here a few weeks before his concert.
Alissa Dania Roslee, 18, came all the way from Arau, Perlis, with her brother, Afeeq Danial, 16, and her friend, Nur Arina Abdul Halim, 18.
"I wasn't that much into Bieber, but after I watched Never Say Never, I saw how hard he practised for his show and how entertaining his concert was, so I decided to buy the tickets to the concert.
"And we all enjoyed it tremendously and it was even better than the movie."
The tickets, ranging from RM98 to RM498 (S$40 to $204), pricier than Grammy winners Bruno Mars and Maroon 5's shows - were snapped up as soon as they were launched in January.
Bieber was here for his second Southeast Asian stop as part of his My World Tour before heading to Singapore. He will perform in Jakarta tomorrow and in Manila next month.
